Brilliant Breakfast campaign simply Brilliant!
Tetbury Women came together on 30th March 2026, to unite at the “Brilliant Breakfast” to Support the Next Generation, with a powerful morning of conversation, connection, and purpose held in support of The King’s Trust and to donate to the “Change a Girl’s Life” campaign. The event, hosted by local entrepreneurs Sindy Foster and Coreen Painter Sponsored by Snooty Fox and Tetbury Times, brought together women from a range of professional backgrounds to share their experiences and explore how they can collectively support young people in the local community—particularly young girls facing barriers to opportunity.
Beyond fundraising, they focused on something equally important : Action
Attendees discussed practical ways to support young people locally, including mentoring, offering work shadowing placements, and creating pathways into employment for those who may not otherwise have access to such opportunities.
For Sindy, Principal Managing Partner of Avaero Capital Partners, the event was deeply personal. Growing up in inner-city London as one of four children raised by a young, widowed mother, she said there was little expectation that she would go on to university or become an entrepreneur. “That path simply wasn’t visible to me,” she explained.
“It took one teacher to shift that perspective—and that changed everything.” That early encouragement led her to university and later to becoming a Windsor Fellow, an initiative founded by King Charles III to support students from underrepresented backgrounds.
“There are so much knowledge, experience and goodwill in this community,” she said. “If we harness that, we can create real opportunities for the next generation.”

Susan Brown the amazing positive inspirational tireless campaigner and organiser said afterwards Thank you for all the support. There was an amazing turn out for the Tetbury Wombles Great British Spring Clean on Sunday 22nd March! 21 volunteers joined our Town Litter Pick, and in just 2 hours we collected 10 bags of rubbish and logged 9 larger items for collection! Very many thanks go to everyone who gave up their sunny Sunday morning to help, and to Tetbury Town Council for making the event possible through their support including insurance and loan of equipment. The Great British Spring Clean is the nation's biggest mass-action environmental campaign.
Since 2016, their army of millions of amazing Litter Heroes have shown their love where they live by pledging to pick more than 4.5 million bags of litter, demonstrating that thousands of small actions, when taken collectively, make a big difference. The Great British Spring Clean and Great Big School Clean runs from 13 to 29 March 2026.
This commitment to environmental stewardship exemplifies community-driven action at its finest and stands as a testament to our hometown dedication to preserving natural spaces for current and future generations that undeniably made a meaningful difference. And with a little bit of thought and consideration we can continue the ethos and sentiment of this campaign all year round.
The Keep Britain Tidy campaign Every year enlisted an extraordinary line-up of familiar names, including Lulu, ABBA, The Bee Gees, Ronnie Corbett and even the Queen Mother. Their faces appeared on posters across the country, reinforcing the message that keeping streets clean was everyone’s responsibility.

Two Ronnies "Fork Handles"Inspire Artist
Lesley Jablonski, distinguished Tetbury artist showcased her diverse talents through an enthralling exhibition at John Bowen Gallery Malmsbury Town Hall. Lesley known for her innovative approach and distinctive style, employs a rich tapestry of materials to create pieces that resonate with emotional depth and visual complexity. This exhibition not only reflects her mastery over traditional artistic techniques but also her inventive fun spirit through the integration of modern elements. Attendees were treated to a compelling array of artworks that range from textured canvases to intricately designed cards, each piece telling its own unique story. Her use of mixed media provides layers of meaning and invites viewers to explore beyond surface perceptions. The exhibition exemplifies how Lesley pushes the boundaries of conventional artistry, offering new perspectives on both personal expression and contemporary themes within the art world. Her joyful imagination was proven by two pieces inspired by the classic sketch Fork Handles illustrating both the meanings from that fantastic sketch!
Lesley is a big part of the character, charm and ethos of Tetbury, always happy and enthusiastic, whether it be growing amazing sunflowers in her front garden with her grandchildren, singing in the choir or even creating Cotswold Hilda at a comic book workshop! Many remember her coordinating amazing events when she was Tesco community champion. Prior to her retirement giving her time now to concentrate on her art.
She was even winner of one of the first inspirational Dolphins Awards. Lesley is true Tetbury ambassador and champion! And we are fortunate that she shares her joyous enthusiasm with us. Thank you
Change a Girls life
Two inspirational Tetbury businesswomen Sindy and Coreen, will be hosting and invite you to be part of the Tetbury Brilliant Breakfast, to raise vital funds for the Kings Trust and its 'Change a Girls Life’ campaign. Your support will help young women build a brighter future, gain confidence and take the next steps towards employment and independence. By donating to the Tetbury Brilliant Breakfast, we are all paying it forward. A little can mean a lot. They have guest speakers who will share their personal journeys, including the barriers they’ve faced, and overcome, to get into the roles they're in today.
The Snooty Fox and Tetbury Times are sponsoring the Tetbury Brilliant Breakfast, which means that all the money raised by donations will go directly to the Kings Trust. The breakfast will take place on Monday, the 30th of March 2026 at the Snooty Fox at 10:00 am.

The King's Trust, formerly known as The Prince's Trust, supports young people who face disadvantage and adversity to develop the confidence and skills they need to move forward in life. Over the last five years, three in four young people supported by The Trust moved into work, education or training after completing one of our programmes. They help young people from disadvantaged communities and those facing the greatest adversity by supporting them to build the confidence and skills to live, learn and earn.
Supporting this initiative not only enriches the experience but also bolsters the impact we can collectively achieve within the community.
A Sun-derful Day! Always
Thirty solar panels are being installed on the rear pitch of Tetbury Goods Shed Arts Centre, in a project that will save the arts centre over £2500 a year in electricity bills and reduce its annual carbon emissions by almost 2.5tonnes. The installation, which is being undertaken by leading renewables company, Good Energy, was made possible by Cotswold District Council thanks to a grant from the Rural England Prosperity Fund (REPF).
the arts centre’s General Manager, Richard Kingdom explains: “We were very fortunate that one of our regular supporters, John Turton, took the initiative to invite Good Energy to develop a solar plan for the arts centre. Then when Cllr Laura Hall-Wilson suggested we took a look at the Rural England Prosperity Fund, suddenly the project went from a long-term goal to a short-term possibility. But with only a fortnight to go before the fund’s deadline, John, Richard and the team had to pull out the stops to get the bid over the line. With a little assistance from Cllr Mike McKeown - who had experience of making REPF bids some timely planning advice, and the expedited approval of the arts centre’s landlords, Tetbury Town Council, the bid went in with a supporting letter from Cllr Hall-Wilson. The successful fundraising campaign was supported by individuals as well as the generosity of The James Dyson Foundation, Good Energy and the Tetbury branches of the Lions and Coventry Building Society (whose staff did a sponsored walk for the project!).Richard concluded “We’re enormously grateful for everyone’s support in making this project a reality, it’s a really important improvement and will help keep this wonderful arts centre thriving for years to come!”

After a cheer when it was cut the guests returned inside and were treated to a sumptuous array of nibbles and drink.

A Great Burns Night Lunchtime Event
The Upton Mill Care Home's Burns Night Lunch Celebration was a wonderful enjoyable meticulously organised event that paid tribute to Scotland's beloved bard! Residents, and guests gathered to honour Scotland's beloved bard, Robert Burns. The event started with an enthusiastic rendition of the traditional bagpipe setting a lively mood for the afternoon which followed by the welcome by Bill Ralston in full Highland regalia, and the Selkirk Grace read by Sheila. Then residents and guests alike enjoyed a culturally three course menu featuring traditional Scottish fare, with the haggis as the centerpiece, with its own address! Delivered with theatrical flair by Bill Ralston, accompanied by bashed neaps, champit tatties the works! There was even a vegetarian option. And not forgetting a wee dram of whisky for that authentic Scottish touch.
No Burns Night is complete without some without some storytelling, poems and good addresses
Bill carried on the cultural immersion through fascinating eloquent storytelling of the Bairds’ life, loves and work with 'Immortal Memory' . Bill then handed over to myself (Kevin) for the traditional reading of the 'Address to the Lassies' and then the Lassies response read by Correna CSM of Upton Mill. The event concluded with Scottish Sangs, Mirth and Dancing Poems. 'we had to tell tales, and we have sangs to sing.' Special thanks must go to Correna her fantastic chef and amazing team making it smashing success. Knowing Simon and Wendy and their team perhaps the secret ingredient of the amazing wines is the enthusiasm sunshine and love that they share in abundance making it the perfect destination and experience. .Following the amazing success of the last Cotswold Comic Con now in its fourth year, The Tetbury Goods Shed Art Centre and 451 Comics initiative are working together to provide a new Comic Con Festival, this time over two days on May 30/31st, 2026 and will have all the excitement and fun of all things comic related, comic dealers, special guests, Cos Play and much more. The theme is Experts, Enthusiasts and Educators! Coreen the organiser said last year 'Kevin was touring giving lectures and workshops about the advantages of using graphic novels in education which has been welcomed by schools and libraries, to expand on this we are fortunate that Expert Professor J Gibson of Cambridge University will be heading up the one of the discussion panels on Neurodiversity and the positive effect of reading comics. Wonderful Welcome for New Art Gallery
On a crisp winter evening, the vibrant and diverse Business community of Tetbury came together to celebrate the informal opening of the new art gallery, Chomé Fine Art at 31 Church Street in Tetbury.
The atmosphere was one of elegance and sophistication, as attendees mingled and marvelled at the stunning works of art on display.
Owner, Douglas Chomé Wilson, a perfect host was clearly delighted said 'I was truly amazed at the number of people who came along to welcome the new gallery and shared their love and enthusiasm. I cannot thank my close friend Arthur Smith enough for introducing me to this wonderful town for his ongoing support. The evening was a true testament to the amount of respect that Arthur has gained over 27 years within the local business community.
I would also like to thank my fellow businesses for their support making me feel at home. I believe that there is a renaissance happening with the number of new businesses opening, and Tetbury is fast becoming an art destination with many other galleries offering wide ranging choices.’’
Douglas started what he calls his apprenticeship spending 10 years with West End salesrooms including Bonhams, New Bond St where he headed up the Victorian paintings dept, Richard Green Gallery head of dept and Sotheby’s, adding to his wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm.
Opening his first showroom in Sherborne in1994 subsequently moving to Bath. Last summer he retired after 11 years as Fairs Director at Haynes Fine Art, Broadway & Belgravia. I would like to take this opportunity with the beginning of a New Year here to thank all the amazing people that have made this new Tetbury News site, so popular and welcoming and there are still so many more people and stories to share. Tetbury is wealthy in so many immeasurable ways chief among them the respect and love of the people and this year as always we have been blessed with an abundance of goodwill that we share, from you all.
We must say thank you to our new rector Revd Sarah Heywood and her fantastic team really encompass the Tetbury spirit and thrown herself into working so hard for the Town. Of course being her first Tetbury Christmas she has been extraordinary busy with the wonderful church services she has led. She brings a fresh joy and innocence to services, Her Christmas Day story of the birth of Christ with fun references to various chocolates which children identified and was given. A perfect example of be happy and the hope she brings, perhaps this is why she fits into Tetbury so well so well. Thank you Sarah.

Tetbury Santa Dash
The weekend culminated in what is fast becoming one of the biggest events on the Tetbury calendar the Santa dash Anna Montague-Jones of the friends said 'It was a good day weather wise for this year's Santa Dash which was organised by the Friends of Tetbury Hospital and generously sponsored by Hunter French, Estate Agents. There were well over 150 people who set off, many in jolly Christmas outfits and everyone in a Santa hat provided by the sponsors - young, not so young, children in pushchairs and dogs - a happy band, following our very own Santa.
When they returned to the Market House, there was mulled wine, cold drinks, mince pies, and sausage rolls. Calcot, Hobbs Bakery, Tesco, The Priory Hotel and the Gilbertine Kitchen have all generously provided these welcome refreshments.
There was a very noble group of marshals, whose help was much appreciated.
The local Air Cadets were on hand to help and there were music and jollity - a very happy morning to help raise money for Tetbury Hospital. The Friends committee all worked hard but nonetheless enjoyed themselves!

The tireless enthusiastic friends of Tetbury Hospital team presented their delightful Christmas Stall under the historic Market House/Town Hall on a crisp dry where many soaked up the merry atmosphere and enjoyed the charm of Tetbury, picking up homemade festive goodies, Fresh mistletoe, beautifully potted hyacinths, Unique seasonal treats & gifts.
and engaging with the public to raise the profile of the fundraising for the hospital. With all proceeds going to our hospital.
Spectacular Concert starts Festive Weekend
To Start the weekend there was the beautiful Christmas concert held in St Mary's Church, a true merry miscellany celebrating a traditional Christmas. Katharine Landale Chairman of the friends of Tetbury Hospital perfectly summed it up said after the wonderful spectacular concert ‘The most important thanks tonight are to you, our audience. Thank you to you all for being here. You are part of the wonderful community that supports us throughout the year - through volunteering, attending events and making donations. We simply could not operate without you. You are the backbone of Tetbury.

The friends of Tetbury Hospital fantastic family festive fun weekend of fundraising events, organised by the friends of Tetbury Hospital got off to an amazing start with a spectacular presentation of a check from the Tetbury Lions Club of a spectacular £10,000 to the Tetbury Hospital trust
Many locals remember the late 1980s the NHS owned portfolio of community hospitals in Gloucestershire was struggling financially, and Tetbury Hospital was threatened with closure, Tetbury residents and the local community refused to lose such a critical asset; they raised over a million pounds to save the hospital and re-establish it as a charitable entity. Tetbury Hospital Trust Ltd was incorporated in 1992 and the fundraising arm The Friends of Tetbury Hospital was established at the same time. The former Prince of Wales became the Patron, and his Majesty King Charles III is still the patron. With the 12th Duke of Beaufort, whose family have been long term supporters of the hospital, is still their President. Tetbury hospital trust is a charity. An independent healthcare provider, they deliver high-quality services on behalf of the NHS and private patients. It was Good to attend the family carol concert held at the Beautiful St Saviours Church with mulled wine and mince pies. led by the ever enthusiastic Revd Sarah Harwood, as part of Christmas tree festival. So why not take some time out and enjoy the completely free Christmas tree festival at the exquisite St Saviours Church which runs until January 5, 2024, and see the and individual vast range of beautifully decorated trees representing local organisations, schools, and clubs. There is also the special memory tree giving you the opportunity to leave your memories of loved ones, friends and family, on the Christmas Memory Tree, by attaching special messages to ones that will be missed. You can drop in at any time the church is open. This is a Town Council initiative and of course totally free if you wish to you can leave a donation which will be gifted to the church's conservation trust in aid of St saviours Church. The trees are spectacular and of course give us a reminder of the many groups that we have in our wonderful Town you may know very well, and some might be new to yourselves

New Start for New Surgery for Tetbury
On Friday 21st November a truly historic ground-breaking ceremony was held to mark the beginning of the construction for the Towns New State of the art medical centre/surgery,
A proud Stonewood Homes announced the commencement of construction on Tetbury’s new GP surgery at our Worwell Rise development. This milestone marks the culmination of extensive planning, collaboration, and determination to deliver a facility that will significantly enhance healthcare provision for the local community. The £5 million medical centre will provide modern, accessible services for more than 10,000 patients, featuring 16 consulting rooms and state-of-the-art facilities designed to meet future needs. As James Petherick, Land and Planning Director at Stonewood Homes, commented:
“We are extremely pleased to commence work on this important new infrastructure project for the town. A huge amount of work has gone into reaching this milestone and I would like to thank the Phoenix Health Group, Assura and NHS Gloucestershire as well as Geoff Turbott, the landowner. We look forward to progressing the build, alongside the development of 27 high-quality homes.”
Dr Pete Hill Partner Phoenix Health Group said ''It has been very exciting seeing the building work begin on the new surgery on Cirencester Road. This will be a great investment into Tetbury, and we hope it will provide a much more comfortable experience for patients when visiting the surgery. There are currently very few new GP surgeries being built due to the current financial constraints, so we are lucky to have this new building in Tetbury. We would like to thank the Gloucestershire Integrated Care Board, Stonewood Homes and everyone that supported us locally.
Thank you to everyone involved for all the hard work that has gone to ensure that our Town keeps this needed facility in our town and surrounded area.

Despite the wet weather, we had our elves! A merry little Christmas light switch on Friday Dec 5 with Tetbury's annual Christmas light switch-on event. Tetbury Town Council advised people ''Unfortunately, due to BBC and Met Office forecasts of 20+ mph gusts of wind, we won’t be able to put up gazebos for safety reasons. This means the event will be much smaller than planned, and we are heartbroken not to kick off the festivities in the way we all look forward to every year’.
Mayor Cllr Steve Scott, Thanked the organisations who funded the event, the Feoffees of Tetbury, Gloucestershire County council, Build back better scheme, and Tetbury Town Council. Tetbury’s own Richard Burton compare extraordinaire, who battled the rain weather welcomed James and Emma Lowsely-Williams, and the winners of the children St Mary's school Christmas competition then announced the countdown. First with a blessing from Revd Sarah Haywood followed by the countdown and switch on, lighting the Market House/Town Hall and Town. Special Thanks must also give to the Lowsely-Williams family for donating the amazing trees and for the festive music from Adam Okin.
Well done and a big thank you must go to all the Christmas groups who worked so hard crafting the colorful Christmas event. But the real magic wasn't just the lights but the warmth of the lovely community laughter and shared memories that would shine brightly in the heart long after the festivity ended and be a night to remember.

Arrives in Tetbury
The eagerly anticipated expansion of French Grey opened, bringing to life French Grey’s new Christmas Wonderland, a beautiful enchanting space full of Christmas sparkles and glitter to Tetbury’s lovely high street at 1 Long Street. As they were not moving they are expanding next door from their existing shop so you can still visit them at number 3 Long Street as well. The new expansion has received such a amazing amount of support on the social media praising and thanking Jackie and her team for the marvellous addition to the centre of town. Father Christmas with our Fire Crew Tours Tetbury
A popular tradition is that of the Christmas Carol Float. Tetbury’s Christmas Carol float is brought round by the Tetbury Fire crew, and this year the festive tour will be taking place over three evenings with different routes, on the evenings.
On Monday Dec 15, they start out from the Fire Station at about 5pm, bringing the Christmas vibes to Hampton Street, Chavenage Lane, Romney Road, Longtree Close, Lowfield Road, St. Mary's Road and most of the roads that surround. Santa is looking forward to this round! Red route!
On Tuesday 16 Dec, Santa will be visiting Close Gardens, Sherwood Road, Cutwell, Berrells Road, Shearers Way, Bath Road, Cirencester Road, Trubshaw Close, Dormers, Havenhill Road and Quercus Road. They’ll get into as many of the Roads and turnings as they can, with a 14tonne lorry and Santa being towed by a 4x4! We can't wait! Blue route!
On Saturday 20 Dec, Santa and his Elves, a Watch Manager and some firefighters will be playing Christmas music, eating Celebrations, drinking tea and generally being Christmassy outside. Do go and see them!
On Monday 22 Dec, The last outing of this festive season for Santa in Tetbury.
He always enjoys the kids following the float through Conygar and loves to see all the effort that the families have made with their outside decorations!
They'll be singing, dancing and swinging their way along London Road, Conygar, Priory Way, Shepard's Mead estate and Northfield Road. There will be some Mince pies eaten in the process. Green route!

A big thank you must go to Cllr Laura Hall- Wilson who organised the Tetbury Local Plan Meeting at the Tetbury Goods Shed on Monday Dec 1 which was attended by resident's county, district and Town Cllrs giving attendees the opportunity to raise many issues as well as discussing the local plan
Laura said 'I was very pleased to be able to chair a meeting on the Cotswolds District Council local plan preferred options consultation this week to give Tetbury residents the opportunity to discuss how the options had been arrived at and to ask questions. We are being expected to plan for a relatively low number compared with other settlements in the district, and what I hear from residents is they understand the councils predicament at the hands of the Labour government’s housing targets but they are most concerned about infrastructure keeping up: roads; drainage; healthcare among just a few areas mentioned. I will do what I can to keep amplifying those voices, but most importantly residents need to feed into the consultation which runs until 2nd January and can be found on the Cotswold District Council website.’’

On December 19th, they will be hosting a fun-packed Christmas Silent Disco at Tetbury’s new Dolphins Hall, complete with tinsel, twinkly lights and excellent tunes.
This knockout winter event, which is back by popular demand, will run from 6pm to 9pm, and promises to be a family-friendly experience delivering all the entertainment, laughter, and great music that Tetfest fans have come to love — just with a quieter twist! Grab a pair of glowing headphones, choose your channel, and dance to your own beat as DJ Josh spins a fantastic mix of tunes to get everyone moving.
We held a Christmas Silent Disco two years ago and it was a huge success, so we decided to organise another and coincide its timing with the start of the school Christmas holidays,” says Tetfest committee member Roz Goodwin. “The kids will have broken up that afternoon, and this is the perfect way for the whole family to get the party started. There will also be a pizza van on site for busy parents who wants a night off from cooking tea.”

Christmas tree carol service Dec 6
On Saturday, the 6th of December will be the always popular and traditional family Christmas tree carol service held at uniquely exquisite St Saviours Church at 5:00 pm this will be followed by mulled wine and mince pies. And of course open to all. To many Tetburians St saviours Church holds a special place in their hearts even though it is now a redundant church. And if you can't get to this service the Christmas tree festival will be on display in the church daily from 9:00am until 5:00pm. Giving you the chance to not only admire this beautiful church but also view the individual decorated and displayed trees that represent local organisations Schools and clubs that are part of our town.
Christingle Dec 7
One of the most simple beautiful and uplifting services the Church has is that of the Christingle and this year you're invited by messy church to come along and make your own Christingle and enjoy some singing around the fire! This is open to all families and will take place on Sunday 7 December at 4:00 pm, at St Mary's church where all are welcome. You'll be able to make a donation to the children's society.
Tetbury Film Society Dec 10
On Wednesday 10th December, Tetbury Film Society will be screening the comedy-drama ‘The Penguin Lessons’ (Cert. 12A). Based on true events, it follows a disillusioned Englishman who goes to work in a school in a divided Argentina, where his life is transformed when he rescues an orphaned penguin. Doors at the Dolphins Hall open at 7pm and the screening begins at 7:30pm prompt. Visiting guests are welcome; tickets are available on the door. Your ticket includes a complimentary drink to celebrate the festive season.
Carol Concert Dec 11
It has often been said that Christmas is for children. But our young people have the understanding maturity that 'it is more blessed to give than to receive' (Acts 20:35) on Thursday, the 11th of December you're invited to share in Christmas carol concert featuring students of Avening, Leighterton, St Mary’s and Sir William Romney’s Schools. The unbelievable talent and joy that this concert brings for you, and to share in is a perfect way to to Participate in the simple joy that Christmas brings. The concert will take place at 6:30 until 7;30 at St Mary's Church Tetbury.
Quiz Night Dec 12
There will be a special Christmas quiz night in raffle at St Mary's school hall Tetbury on Friday, the 12th of December. Doors open at 7 pm the quiz starts at 7:30 pay on the night £5 per person raffle £1 per strip. Entry and raffle cash only please there will be a bar with cash or card. There will be an engraved winners trophy and medals for winning team raffle prizes one too if you would like to support the school then please donate your prize at the school all proceeds from the quiz and Raffle will go to the school. Tetbury Remembrance Service
On Sunday November 9 at 2:30pm the Annual Service of Remembrance Took place at a packed St Mary’s Church, the service as always was a joint Tetbury Area Churches Together (TACT). The service as always was very moving and poignant and was led by Revd Sarah Heywood with ministers from Tetbury area churches together
After the Church service the congregation who were joined by many people afterwards with the official parade from the Green to St Saviours Church, home of the War Memorial. For the final act of remembrance the wreath laying was led by an open air Service and hymns, then Poppies Wreaths were laid on behalf of Royal British Legion, Tetbury branch. Gloucestershire County Council, Cotswold District Council, Tetbury Town Council, the Feoffees
of Tetbury, Gloucestershire Constabulary, Gloucester Fire and rescue service Tetbury crew, Royal Society of St George, Air Training Corps, Tetbury Chamber, Tetbury Scout Group, Girl Guiding, St Mary’s School, Sir William Romney’s School, St Mary’s Church, St Michaels Church, Christ Church, Lions Club of Tetbury, Probus, OGRI motorcycle club,United Services Club, WI, Tetbury Cricket Club, the Dolphins Hall, the Rifle Club, the Malthouse. The service concluded, with the traditional remembering,The Last Post .The Two Minute Silence. Reveille was sounded. Then everyone United singing the national anthem. Finally The Kohima Epitaph was recited with deep reverence,
''When you go home, tell them of us and say, For your tomorrow, we gave our today.'' Afterwards people gathered for refreshments in bowling club. There are many volunteers who help with this day, who deserve our thanks although everyone was united in wanting to thank Jane Haines for her superb organising and coordinating this time of remembrance.
I Wool always Love ewe!
.A throng of enthusiasts gathered in the Goods Shed to celebrate all things woollen in the second Ewe-nique Tetbury Woolfair on October 12.
The Woolfair, the brainchild of local resident author and columnist Anne Hooper. In the hall many took time to leisurely Browse and buy from independent yarn manufacturers, spinners, dyers, eco friendly dyers using only naturally sourced colours, a knitting table where you could seek advice on your latest project, yarn accessories, local yarn retailers And even watch demonstrations. A firm favourite was the fabulous Pat Hodges owner of the marvellous Long Street wool & yarn shop Skeins, a real cornerstone of Tetbury as one of its longest running businesses. Complimented with more variety than in a Royal command performance, with diversity such as Jane Haines of the History of Tetbury Society (HOTS) gave on her very popular guided walk around the town and through its historical association with wool. Local Cotswold sheep farmer Sophia Ashe a young farmer who now breeds this traditional species, gave a fascinating talk about the role her sheep play in today's "woolly " climate. Another one of the stars was farmer Gareth Williams with his Hampshire Down breed of sheep entertaining visitors and greeting everyone out side, giving us a reminder of the old classic cattle market site immortalised by the classic HE Bates story and John Mills film Dulcima. Now the Millennium Green connected by Will's Bridge. And of course home to the Ewe-nique Tetbury Wool Sack Races.

Food Glorious Food
Tetbury, famous for its antiques and of course its Royal neighbours, is also one of he Cotswolds food destinations The Tetbury food scene has always been legendary, but it’s more exciting than ever right now. As recently The Ormond welcomed James Edwards as their new Head Chef. James is no stranger to excellence! Having trained under Michael Caines, worked with Gordon Ramsay at W8, and spent two formative years under Tom Kerridge at The Hand and Flowers. More recently, he led the culinary revival at The Kings Head Hotel in Cirencester.
In fact it was only last Valentines’ Day when they opened the new restaurant bistro 23 situated in the Ormond. The Ormond is a magnificent atmospheric coaching inn that has welcomed travellers since the 16th century. One of many historic buildings in the centre of the town, complimented by 22 rooms that come in many shapes and sizes blending a comfortable mix of classic and contemporary. James said I love bold flavour packed dishes that celebrate the best seasonal produce. While training with top chefs I learned that cooking starts with great ingredients especially local ones. I often say the first thing you do when you travel is eat and drink local so I want our guests to have that same experience. My style marries British classics with global inspiration using fresh Cotswolds vegetables

Tetbury always unique
Resident Tetbury goats Joan and Dawn, with their human handler Kathryn Minchew, enjoyed a weekday walkabout in the town centre to promote an autumn and winter programme of six craft and catering workshops. Designed and run by Kathryn, the Fire Table workshops combine seasonal cooking and creative making in an outdoor shelter, with the playful goat duo on hand to raise extra smiles.
Spencer House Gallery owner Chris Woodcock said: "Inviting Kathryn, Joan and Dawn to promote these workshops at the gallery is a small example of how we town-centre businesses can team up with home-based entrepreneurs. We got lots of intrigued looks - it's not every day you see two goats walked on leads down the high street - and encouraged shoppers and visitors to find out more about the workshops as well as come and support our finale exhibition by regional artists." Enterprising animal lover Kathryn made the gallery her first stop on a short tour of other Tetbury retailers, before the girl goats disappeared home for their well-earned tea. Special Service
A special service of Evensong taken by Tetbury's new Rector, the Reverend Sarah Heywood, took place at unfortunately redundant St. Saviour's Church on 14th September. Commemorating the life and work of Charles Fuge Lowder. Lowder was born in 1820, and served in Tetbury as curate. At the time, pews had to be rented at St. Marys' and many townsfolk could not afford to pay, so each Sunday had to see if they could get a spot in one of the 240 free seats in the church. Often people had to be turned away.
Charles Lowder felt strongly that provision should be made for the poor of the parish, and was passionate about inspiring places of worship not being the preserve of the rich. He was instrumental in the founding and building of St. Saviour's and even funded the unusual baptismal font himself.
It is exquisitely decorated and features symbols of the Evangelists, the Agnus Dei (Lamb of God), the dove and the cross. The counterweight for the cover is in the form of a dove - representing the Holy Spirit - hanging on a chain in front of the west window.
This extraordinary man went on to be remembered particularly for his ministry in the East End of London. He was a constant presence among the poor as cholera ravaged the docklands, bringing hope by visiting the sick, offering food and bringing communion.
Rev'd Sarah held up Lowder as an example as a man of compassion and forethought, who cared very much for those less fortunate. In her sermon, she said 'Charles Fuge Lowder once said that the heart of mission is not strategy or buildings, but love, love that perseveres, love that serves. If we keep that love in sight, then his example becomes more than a story from the past. It becomes an invitation – maybe even a challenge - here and now.’

Pride &Prejudice
On Sunday 23 November 2025 Tetbury Goods Shed present Pride & Prejudice in words and music,with Harriet Walter and pianist Melvyn Tan. This captivating entertainment, full of laugh-out-loud moments and wonderful surprises, combines the words of Jane Austen’s most popular novel with one of the most beloved musical soundtracks of the 1990s. The enduring story of the romance between Elizabeth Bennett and Mr Darcy is read by star of stage and screen, Harriet Walter, in a simple but intimate drawing-room setting, in much the same way that Jane herself first read the story aloud to her family and their closest friends. Weaving around those words is Carl Davis’ magical score from the much loved BBC TV drama series of the 1990s, performed by Melvyn Tan (pianist on the original BBC soundtrack) and violinist Irene Duval. The book has been abridged by novelist and Austen biographer, Gill Hornby.
