Tetbury Times Code of Pratice
Tetbury Times – Statutory Code of Practice
Tetbury Times follows the Statutory Code of Practice issued by the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport under Section 103 of the Digital Economy Act 2017.
This Code provides guidance for social media platforms and any service hosting user‑generated content, including community forums, review sites, gaming platforms, and online marketplaces. Its purpose is to reduce bullying, insulting, intimidating, or humiliating behaviour online.
Although directed primarily at social media providers, the Code is relevant to all organisations that allow public interaction. The Government also encourages advertisers and investors to support the Code’s aims.
Guiding Principles for Online Safety
The Government expects platforms to uphold four core principles. These examples illustrate good practice but are not exhaustive; platforms should adapt them to suit their service and user needs. The Secretary of State may request updates to the Code.
1. Clear and Accessible Reporting Processes
Platforms should ensure users can easily report harmful conduct.
Good practice may include:
Allowing non‑users (e.g., parents, teachers, social workers) to report concerns on behalf of vulnerable individuals.
Regularly testing and improving reporting tools based on user feedback and new features.
Consulting relevant professionals and stakeholders, including disabled users, when developing safety policies.
2. Efficient Handling of Reports
Platforms should respond promptly and appropriately to notifications of harmful conduct.
Good practice may include:
Sending an acknowledgement within 24 hours confirming receipt of a report, with clear information on next steps and expected timelines.
Communicating with users in the most effective and accessible way for their needs.
Reviewing reports against all relevant terms and conditions, not only the category selected by the reporter.
3. Clear Information in Terms & Conditions
Platforms should provide transparent information about reporting processes and rules.
Good practice may include:
Clear definitions of harmful conduct and prohibited behaviours.
Information on consequences for violating platform rules.
A link or reference explaining how guidelines are developed, enforced, and reviewed, including performance metrics such as takedown rates.
4. Transparency About Actions Taken
Platforms should inform the public about how they address harmful conduct.
Good practice may include:
Removing reported content on a “comply or explain” basis — either removing it or explaining why it remains.
Providing education to users about appropriate online behaviour and consequences for misuse, especially for those who breach policies.
Equality & Accessibility Statement
The Government is committed to promoting equality and diversity online. Evidence shows that women, minority racial and religious groups, LGBT communities, and disabled people face disproportionate levels of online harm.
Platforms are expected to have due regard to the Equality Act 2010 and ensure equal access, protection, and representation for all users.
Tetbury Times – Footnote (i): How Our Process Works
If you believe any of the above principles have been breached, or if you have concerns about content on Tetbury Times, please contact:
Once your message is received:
You will receive an acknowledgement confirming your notification.
The content in question will be reviewed promptly.
If appropriate, the material may be removed temporarily or permanently.
If we discover that information was deliberately or maliciously falsified, the responsible individual will be banned, and a public letter of apology will be issued.
For further details, please refer to our Complaints Procedure.
Our Commitment to You
We strongly encourage readers to raise any concerns or complaints. Addressing issues quickly and fairly is a top priority for Tetbury Times.
Every concern is treated:
Confidentially
With seriousness
With urgency
With a commitment to swift, effective resolution
Your feedback helps us continually improve and uphold the highest standards of accuracy, safety, and community trust.
Thank you,
Coreen the Editor
Tetbury Times is committed to safeguarding the privacy of our website visitors; this policy sets out how we will treat your personal information. Our website uses cookies. By using our website and agreeing to this policy, you consent to our use of cookies in accordance with the terms of this policy.
1. What information do we collect?
We may collect, store and use the following kinds of personal information:
(a) information about your computer and about your visits to and use of this website (including your IP address, geographical location, browser type and version, operating system, referral source, length of visit, page views and website navigation);
(b) information relating to any transactions carried out between you and us on or in relation to this website, including information relating to any purchases you make of our goods or services;
(c) information that you provide to us for the purpose of registering with us;
(d) information that you provide to us for the purpose of subscribing to our website services, email notifications and/or newsletters;
(e) any other information that you choose to send to us
Before you disclose to us the personal information of another person, you must obtain that person’s consent to both the disclosure and the processing of that personal information in accordance with the terms of this privacy policy.
2. Cookies
A cookie is a file containing an identifier (a string of letters and numbers) that is sent by a web server to a web browser and is stored by the browser. The identifier is then sent back to the server each time the browser requests a page from the server. This enables the web server to identify and track the web browser.
We may use both “session” cookies and “persistent” cookies on the website. Session cookies will be deleted from your computer when you close your browser. Persistent cookies will remain stored on your computer until deleted, or until they reach a specified expiry date.
We will use the session cookies to: keep track of you whilst you navigate the website; keep track of items in your shopping basket; prevent fraud and increase website security. We will use the persistent cookies to enable our website to recognise you when you visit and keep track of your preferences in relation to your use of our website.
We use Google Analytics to analyse the use of this website. Google Analytics generates statistical and other information about website use by means of cookies, which are stored on users’ computers. The information generated relating to our website is used to create reports about the use of the website. Google will store this information. Google’s privacy policy is available at: http://www.google.com/privacypolicy.html.
Most browsers allow you to reject all cookies, whilst some browsers allow you to reject just third party cookies. For example, in Internet Explorer (version 9) you can refuse all cookies by clicking “Tools”, “Internet options”, “Privacy”, and selecting “Block All Cookies” using the sliding selector. Blocking all cookies will, however, have a negative impact upon the usability of many websites.
3. Cookies and personal information
Cookies do not contain any information that personally identifies you, but personal information that we store about you may be linked, by us, to the information stored in and obtained from cookies.
4. Blocking cookies
Most browsers allow you to refuse to accept cookies. For example:
(a) in Internet Explorer (version 9) you can block cookies using the cookie handling override settings available by clicking “Tools”, “Internet Options”, “Privacy” and then “Advanced”;
(b) in Firefox (version 16) you can block all cookies by clicking “Tools”, “Options”, “Privacy”, selecting “Use custom settings for history” from the drop-down menu, and unticking “Accept cookies from sites”; and
(c) in Chrome (version 23), you can block all cookies by accessing the “Customise and control” menu, and clicking “Settings”, “Show advanced settings” and “Content settings”, and then selecting “Block sites from setting any data” under the “Cookies” heading.
Blocking all cookies will, however, have a negative impact upon the usability of many websites.
5. Deleting cookies
You can also delete cookies already stored on your computer. For example:
(a) in Internet Explorer (version 9), you must manually delete cookie files (you can find instructions for doing so at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/278835;
(b) in Firefox (version 16), you can delete cookies by clicking “Tools”, “Options”, “Privacy” and then “Show Cookies”, and then clicking “Remove All Cookies”; and
(c) in Chrome (version 23), you can delete all cookies by accessing the “Customise and control” menu, and clicking “Settings”, “Show advanced settings” and “Clear browsing data”, and then selecting “Delete cookies and other site and plug-in data” before clicking “Clear browsing data”.
Again, doing this may have a negative impact on the usability of many websites.

(h) send you our newsletter and other marketing communications relating to our business or the businesses of carefully-selected third parties which we think may be of interest to you, by post or, where you have specifically agreed to this, by email or similar technology (and you can inform us at any time if you no longer require marketing communications);
(i) provide third parties with statistical information about our users – but this information will not be used to identify any individual user;
(j) deal with enquiries and complaints made by or about you relating to the website;
(k) keep the website secure and prevent fraud;

You acknowledge that the transmission of information over the internet is inherently insecure, and we cannot guarantee the security of data sent over the internet.

10. Policy amendments
We may update this privacy policy from time to time by posting a new version on our website. You should check this page occasionally to ensure you are happy with any changes.
We may also notify you of changes to our privacy policy by email.
11. Your rights
You may instruct us to provide you with any personal information we hold about you.
